bio

Lalin Mercan (b. 1992, Istanbul) works across drawing, installation and sculpture, developing a narrative-based practice concerned with the formation and transformation of subjectivity. Approaching narrative as an unstable field rather than a fixed structure, she constructs scenes, objects and environments through layering, automatic drawing, and hybrid material processes.
Drawing extensively from feminist literature, speculative fiction, and expanded notions of agency across human and non-human worlds, Mercan’s work engages with fragmented structures, shifting perspectives, and forms of narration that resist closure. Cultural and historical references intermingle with mythological and autobiographical moments, alongside impressions that surface unexpectedly and remain recorded in the body; in skin, muscles, gestures, and forms of embodied memory. Through these intersections, she explores perception, memory, and evolving forms of selfhood.
She undertook undergraduate studies in Fine Art at Goldsmiths University and lives and works in Istanbul.
